Diploma Unit: PSPGEN135 Manage risk

Background

NSW DPI has developed a Diploma Level unit on risk management in the context of land use conflict. This course is delivered through Tocal College (RTO 91166).

The unit is suitable for people working in the areas of strategic planning, development assessment, environmental health or other roles that require balancing differing land use needs. It is particularly focused on the process of identifying, analysing, and managing risk in the context of land use conflict within rural and peri-urban areas of NSW where agricultural activities may be involved.

Throughout the training you will acquire the performance evidence, skills, and knowledge required to maximise results and minimise risks related to land use conflict. The skills learnt are applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State and Territory legislation, Australian standards, and industry codes of practice.

During this unit you will:

  • research, analyse and interpret available information.
  • develop an understanding of the international standard for risk management.
  • determine the context of risk of land use conflicts, assess your options, and develop, review and evaluate a risk management plan.

Course structure

The unit includes four online modules:

  • Module 1 - Introduction to risk and establishing the risk management context
  • Module 2 - Plan for risk management
  • Module 3 - Manage risk
  • Module 4 - Evaluate the risk management plan

Each module has a series of activities, readings, and assessments to help you learn about managing risk. This is complemented by a series of webinars on related topics.
