NSW DPI and LLS Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Action Plan 2024-2025

'Animal biosecurity’ means protecting the economy, environment and community from negative impacts of diseases and pests that affect animals.

The New South Wales (NSW) Department of Primary Industries and regional Development (DPIRD) and Local Land Services (LLS) Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Action Plan 2024-2025 has been developed to underpin the NSW Strategic Animal Biosecurity and Welfare Alliance (SABWA) Strategic Plan, which guides priority activities to safeguard the economy, environment and community from diseases and pests that affect animals as well as improve animal welfare outcomes.

The Action Plan (PDF, 561 KB) is an overview of the objectives, strategies, deliverables and measures that the DPIRD and LLS alliance is committed to delivering in 2024-2025.

Scope

The Action Plan covers six strategic priorities:

  • Lead the preparation for and prevention of future biosecurity threats
  • Coordinate timely and risk proportionate responses
  • Rapidly and efficiently contain biosecurity threats
  • Continuously improve the welfare of animals
  • Ensure community expectations around animal welfare are being met
  • Drive improvements in voluntary compliance

The term animal includes:

  • livestock
  • wildlife
  • companion animals
  • aquatic animals and
  • animals used for exhibition and research purposes
