Average rainfall continues to improve conditions and promote drought recovery across much of the region.

• The Combined Drought Indicator (CDI) shows approximately 10% of the region in one of the Drought Affected category at the end of April. Other locations have seen a transition to Recovery.
• Further rainfall will continue to drive the recent improvement in conditions across the region.
• Western region producers are monitoring their local seasonal conditions and forecasts closely in line with their production systems.
• The NSW DPI continues to closely monitor conditions in this region.

Normalised Difference Vegetation Index

Although there has been a slight decline in the plant greenness values since the last Update, levels remain above average across the region.

• The higher-than-normal levels have been driven by average to above average rainfall across most of the region.
• The influence of rainfall from ex-tropical cyclone Kirrily is still evident.
• Some of the extremely negative NDVI areas (brown patches) are water bodies.
