Soil Water Index (SWI)

The Soil Water Index remains variable across NSW.

  • May rainfall has continued the improvement in the SWI for parts of northeast, central west and western NSW.
  • Much of southern and western NSW remains in a strong production position entering winter.
  • Concerns about low soil moisture remains for parts of eastern and southern NSW.
  • NSW DPI is closely monitoring areas in the Central Tablelands, South East, Riverina, and Murray LLS Regions. Rainfall deficits have contributed to the declining trend in the SWI in these regions.
