On-ground conditions continue to improve, though there is a mix of positive outcomes and continued challenges, depending on location.

  • The Combined Drought Indicator (CDI) shows approximately 29% of the region is in one of the drought categories at the end of June.
  • June rainfall has been above average across the region which has helped aid drought recovery, particularly in the south and west of the region.
  • The easing of conditions is positive for landholders, with winter farm management decisions critical to longer term improvement.
  • Continued follow up rain will be needed to aid longer-term improvement in conditions.
  • The DPIRD continues to closely monitor conditions in this region.

Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI)

Plant greenness levels have remained generally stable since the last Update.

  • Plant greenness levels are highly variable across the region. There have been improvements in the NDVI anomaly values since the last Update, particularly in the west of the region.
  • Above average rainfall over the last few months has seen pastures respond, with good levels of groundcover.
  • Some of the extremely negative NDVI areas (brown patches) are water bodies.

Individual Drought Indicators

Drought indicators continue to respond to follow up rainfall in June with Richmond and Camden entering the Recovery category.

  • Further rainfall in the Gosford region should see this regions transition into the Recovery category in the coming weeks.
