Happy Christmas!

NSW aquaculture has had another exciting and productive year.

The provisional production report indicates continued growth with approximately $112 million in farmgate sales.

The Minister Announced the NSW Aquaculture Vision Statement to grow aquaculture farmgate to $300 million by 2030. This is testament to opportunity the government sees in aquaculture and what aquaculture can bring to the NSW economy.

The Sydney Rock Oyster breeding program has achieved its breeding goals in terms of QX disease resistance, growth and condition. With significant input from the industry the program is moving forward to address ongoing and emerging challenges including climate change and meeting commercial demand.

DPIRD Aquaculture has a new website. It’s now much easier to navigate to quickly find the information you’re after. Many customers are also now e-customers which is improving efficiency for the department and farmers.

A new aquaculture unit run by a DPIRD Aquaculture Director will be established in the new year. This is a fantastic outcome for aquaculture and supports the development of a Roadmap to work with industry to achieve our Vision Statement goals. Industry consultation on the Roadmap will take place early 2025.

Please note that the DPIRD Port Stephens office will be closed from 23 December 2024 – 3 January 2025.

Happy and safe Christmas and holidays to all. Well done on a fabulous 2024 and we look forward to seeing you again in 2025.
