SGSS - Protection of seagrasses
For any aquaculture lease where seagrasses may be present, the permit holder must comply with the following:
- During all farming operations, the permit holder must make reasonable attempts to minimise the impact on seagrass within the lease.
- Unless otherwise approved by NSW DPI, post and rail supported tray and rack infrastructure is not permitted within the lease due to the shading impacts on seagrass.
- Cultivation methods are restricted to the use of longline systems using cylinders or baskets to reduce the effect of shading on seagrass.
- The permit holder may be directed to modify their farming methods or operations if any impact on seagrass is identified.
OYSRT - Protection of oyster reef
For any aquaculture lease where oyster reef may be present, the permit holder must comply with the following:
- The permit holder must farm around the existing oyster reef present within the lease.
- The permit holder may be directed to modify their farming methods or operation if any impact on the oyster reef is identified.
