Environmental protection conditions

SGSS - Protection of seagrasses

For any aquaculture lease where seagrasses may be present, the permit holder must comply with the following:

  1. During all farming operations, the permit holder must make reasonable attempts to minimise the impact on seagrass within the lease.
  2. Unless otherwise approved by NSW DPI, post and rail supported tray and rack infrastructure is not permitted within the lease due to the shading impacts on seagrass.
  3. Cultivation methods are restricted to the use of longline systems using cylinders or baskets to reduce the effect of shading on seagrass.
  4. The permit holder may be directed to modify their farming methods or operations if any impact on seagrass is identified.
