1-3 m: Algae in shallow areas are subject to waves and so are low growing, including coralline, small leafy varieties and small plants of golden kelp.
Animals sheltering in crevices include tuberculate and purple urchins, and turban shells. Fish feeding amongst the algae include rock cale and smooth toadfish, while mado feed on plankton. Look out for the bright green Caulerpa filiformis, which is often confused with seagrass and is abundant in the western parts of the reserve.
