Shallow algae 3-5m

Shallow algae

3-5 m: In this depth, there is a diverse mix of larger algae, such as sargassum and golden kelp, with an understory of coralline and smaller leafy brown algae where light penetrates.

Marine life

The exposed sides of boulders are covered with clumps of the sea squirt Herdmania.

Fish life includes schools of eastern hulas, mados, silver batfish and eastern pomfreds. While eastern blue groper and leatherjackets forage for food in the understory of algae.

Giant Australian cuttlefish are often encountered here during their winter mating season, guarding their dens or hunting.
